Dr Allan Fong is an esteemed ophthalmologist in Singapore with more than 25 years of experience in public medical service, and has received his 20 year Long Service Award at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He left the SNEC to set up Angel Eye & Cataract Centre in July 2024 after completing 9 years of dedicated service as the Head of the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department.

Graduating from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1999 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Dr Allan Fong was awarded the university’s prestigious Gold Medal & Book Prize in Ophthalmology in 1997/8. He also won the Bronze Prize in Physics in Pre-University Science Fair (13th Singapore Youth Science Fortnight, 24 May- 6 Jun 1990).

Dr Fong holds multiple postgraduate Ophthalmology qualifications including MRCOphth (London), FRCS (Edinburgh), and a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the NUS. Dr Fong has also completed the Refractive Surgery and Cornea Fellowship at the Singapore National Eye Centre.

Dr Allan Fong is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, and has always been actively involved in both postgraduate and undergraduate ophthalmology education. During his past tenure at SNEC, he was one of the main cataract surgery trainers and the Director of the Basic Phacoemulsification Course and he was a faculty member of the SNEC LASIK Course. Dr Fong was also a Clinical Physician Faculty Member of the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program and a past Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of NUS.

For administration, Dr Allan Fong was the member of the SNEC Medical Device Committee, Philanthropy and Development Committee, Outpatient Department Committee, Fellowship Coordination Committee, as well as, the Infection Control Committee. He was the past Head of SNEC Balestier Branch from 2011-2015. For clinical research, he is an Adjunct Clinician Investigator at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI).

Apart from his clinical, administration and research activities, Dr Allan Fong is deeply involved in community service, leading the “Project I-Care” initiative since 2006, which provides eye screenings for the elderly. For his dedication to public service, Dr Allan Fong has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Public Service Medal (PBM) and the Public Service Star (BBM) and Healthcare Humanity Award (Open Category for Healthcare Worker) in 2016.

Dr Allan Fong holds leadership positions in several community organisations. Currently, he enjoys organising virtual and physical eye education talks and community eye screenings as the 1st Vice Chairman of Lions SaveSight Centre (LSSC), the Clinical Director for Community Engagement at SNEC and as well as Patron of SG Serve.

He is a member of Asia Pacific Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (APACRS) since 2008,  American Association of Ophthalmology (AAO) since 2003, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) since 2006, and India Intraocular Refractive Society (IIRSI) since 2019.
